Childhood Movie Crushes

Thinking about childhood fashion influences yesterday got me thinking about my major childhood movie crushes.
  • Elliot from ET – Like anyone wasn’t won over by that wide eyed wonder.
  • The Artful Dodger and Bill Sikes from Oliver! – Notice how I seemed to skip right over that blonde goody two shoes Oliver, himself. I was also terrified of Bill Sikes, and used to think he was waiting for me at the top of long staircases and at the end of London’s back alleys. I blame the wardrobe, and Oliver Reed’s unusual eyes for the infatuation.
  • George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life – He just seemed so damned decent! Also, he was really tall.
  • Marty and George McFly from Back to the Future – Yeah, both the son and his father! Although the fact that they were both the same age for most of the movie makes that ok. One was a cocky cutie heartthrob, the other a quirky cutie weirdo.
  • Ozone from Breakin’ II: Electric Boogaloo – The feather earring, the Converse high tops, the midriff bearing sleeveless shirt – and, oh yeah, the breakdancing! (Although I always believed that Turbo was actually the more gifted dancer.)
  • Sebastian in The Neverending Story – “Bastian!”
  • The King in The King and I – He was constantly striving for self improvement, and he was hot, and had a fantastic wardrobe.
  • Elvis in any movie – It’s Elvis.
  • Mikey in The Goonies – I didn’t understand what asthma was, and for some reason I thought it was cute every time he got over excited and had to medicate himself with his inhaler. Years later I made the connection. Boy, I was really in the dark there. Also, he had a great “boy voice.”
  • Pygar the Angel in Barbarella – Don’t ask…. I saw it at someone’s house somewhere. (We weren’t even allowed to watch TV at ours, my Mum would have plotzed if she knew I saw that film at the age I did! “Essence of man.…”) I think that actor was also in The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming – which I saw several times while visiting the town where it was filmed.
  • Gilbert in the Wonderworks version of Anne of Green Gables – Anyone who was attracted to that intelligent and free spirited daydreamer Anne would have thought I was cool as well.

I’m not sure what I’ve actually learned from this little look back, but it sure was fun!
